Vacations in Marbella
The area and getting around
Marbella is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Southern Spain. It is located between Malaga and Gibraltar, in the Andalusia region. It boasts the view of both the Costa del Sol coastline and the stunning Sierra Blanca mountains reaching the blue sky. Yes, the sky is always blue in Marbella! The city has gained a reputation for its mild climate, irresistible for all visitors and attracting quite a lot of VIPs too, who have bought villas in the famous Golden Mile area. But Marbella is also well known for its sandy beaches, water sports offer and fun water parks where your children will have the time of their lives.
A touch of glamour for your vacationsNever-ending beaches with the most unique beach clubs, exclusive golf clubs, designer boutiques, vibrant nightclubs and a must-see Old quarter that will captivate even the most experienced travellers. The icing on the cake will be a 12 course tasting menu at any of the five Michelin-Star restaurants like El Lago, Messina or Skina, that became famous for using local, and seasonal produce in creative ways. Let it be the backdrop of a romantic or special occasion! It goes without saying that you cannot miss the traditional fried fish, fritura malagueña, and typical seafood dishes: espetos de sardinas and gambas al pilpil at any of the eateries in the area.
Travellers and activities
If you are not into relaxing on the beach all the time, Marbella can be the perfect place to stay to set off on various historical tours. Apart from visiting Marbella’s old town that dates back to the Arab domination, you can take a day trip to see the impressive Moor architecture in Ronda, where you can even find the oldest plaza de toros (bullring) in Spain. Other interesting tours are certainly those to Gibraltar - if you don’t mind meeting friendly monkeys, of course - and to the splendid city of Granada. Also Torremolinos offers the view of a traditional old town, apart from its renowned beaches.
Destination for glamour loversAs we were saying, the sun shines all year round in Marbella, so it’s the perfect place to get tanned, with some of the most beautiful Andalusian beaches close at hand, like the beach of Torremolinos, Playa Nagueles or Nikki Beach. Rent a VIP bed for the day, listen to the music and amuse yourself at the best beach clubs. Prefer swinging your clubs or get started into golf? Those who are into sports will be amazed by the elegant golf clubs like Santa Clara or Marbella Golf Club to name a few. And after a long day in the sun, feel the rhythm on the dancefloor at the VIP nightclubs, attend an amazing flamenco dance show and live the atmosphere of the casinos. Glamorous days and nights are awaiting!
Marbella was an unknown fishing village until Prince Max Egon Langenburg’s car broke down and he had to stop there by chance, or rather by accident. He founded the first luxury hotel in town.

It is not only a harbour, but also a luxury district. An exclusive day at Ocean beach club, a shopping afternoon full of glamour and designer boutiques or a relaxing day at one of the three main beaches - Playa Nueva Andalucía, Puerto Banús or Río Verde - to enjoy with friends and family. The marine village in the elegant Mediterranean style attracts visitors and celebrities from all over the world thanks to its gourmet restaurants and fancy bars. Lamborghinis and Ferraris tour the streets of the marine village and are exhibited in huge showrooms.
2. Plaza de los Naranjos, orange grove in the city centreIt is a picturesque Castilian style square that takes its name from the orange trees adorning it. It is surrounded by interesting historical buildings of the Renaissance period, same period of construction of the square itself. You will be enchanted by the orange blossom characteristic smell.
3. Church of Santa María de la EncarnaciónA very beautiful Baroque church built in 1618, overlooking a splendid square, again shaded by trees. It is certainly worth a visit just to see the belfry, the wooden figure of Marbella’s Saint Patron, St Barnabas, the Organ known as the “Great Sun” and its stunning doorway.
4. Take a stroll around the Castle WallsIf the Castle Walls ruins are already very impressive, we cannot but imagine how impressive they were when tall towers stood around them, during the Arab domination.
5. Admire the stunning sights from the top of the mountainFor a full view of Marbella and all of its surrounding lands, including even the Moroccan mountains on a clear day, make sure to trek up to La Concha, a high hill which takes about 4 hours to climb on foot. The expedition is not especially demanding, but still make sure to pack comfortable walking gear, plenty of water and your favourite hat!
